Gina Sedman, internationally known as “The Black Girl Hippie,” is a multi-award-winning soul and funk recording artist, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and live performer whose music is rooted in the timeless sounds of 1970s soul, funk and R&B.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, raised in Inglewood and Los Angeles, California, and now based in the United Kingdom, Gina has spent decades developing a sound and visual identity that bridges generations while remaining unapologetically her own.
As an American artist now living and working in the UK, Gina brings an authentic American soul and funk foundation to the contemporary British music scene.
With a distinctive voice, impressive vocal range and unmistakable 1970s-inspired style, Gina brings together classic soul musicianship, funk grooves, thoughtful songwriting and authentic storytelling. Her performances combine the warmth and musicality of classic soul with the personality of an artist who has built her career entirely on her own terms.
Since beginning her independent recording career in 1996, Gina has written, arranged, produced and released her music independently, building an extensive catalogue through her own label and publishing company, Gico Music. She has released 17 albums, including Valuable People (2024), 1972 (2025), Said MAN! (2025) and her latest project, Who’s Clyde (2026).
Gina is also a hands-on musician and producer, performing vocals and multiple instruments including bass, synthesizer keyboards, strings and horn arrangements. One of the most distinctive elements of her recordings is her ability to use her voice as an instrument, creating vocal textures, rhythms and musical parts that become an integral part of her arrangements.

Her 2024 single “Smile” received daytime playlist support from Jazz FM and was selected as Song of the Week on Mi-Soul Radio.
Her 2025 album Said MAN! received particularly strong radio support, with Calvin Francis and Michael Angol both selecting the album as Album of the Week on Mi-Soul Radio. The album's standout track “The Get Down” was championed by presenters including Greg Edwards, Ronnie Herel, John Osborne, Paul Lewis, Chris Johns, Stretch Taylor and Peter “Vinyl” Jasper, with Stretch Taylor later including Said MAN! among his Top 30 Albums of 2025.
Her music has charted on the Solar Radio Sweet Rhythm Chart and BCfm Official Charts, while her latest album Who’s Clyde has continued to receive radio recognition, including a #7 position on Paul “Stretch” Taylor’s Top 20 chart.

Gina Sedman is an experienced live performer with appearances across the United States and United Kingdom, bringing her original soul and funk catalogue to venues, festivals and live music events.
Her UK performance history includes appearances at PizzaExpress Live Chelsea, PizzaExpress Live Holborn, The Stables, The Bear Club and Soul Mama, as well as the Luton Soul & Funk Festival, Bedford River Festival and Soulé All Dayer events.
Gina has also opened for Rose Royce in Los Angeles and, following her move from California to the UK, completed performances across South East England, building a growing UK audience for her original music.
Her live performances bring her original catalogue to the stage with a professional live band, delivering a set built around soul, funk, R&B and groove-driven original music.
Gina's live presentation is further distinguished by her instantly recognizable visual identity. Her signature 1970s-inspired style, powerful stage presence, warm personality and unmistakable voice create a performance that is both musically authentic and visually memorable.
A notable career milestone came through Gina's performance at The Vault inside the flagship HMV store, where she earned a place on the prestigious HMV Wall of Fame, an honor recognizing artists from across the independent and major-label music communities.

WHO'S CLYDE
Released in June 2026, Who’s Clyde is Gina's latest album and one of her most ambitious independent projects to date.
Inspired by the sound and spirit of 1970s soul and funk, the album is structured as a two-sided project. Side S explores soul, love, life and gratitude, while Side F delivers the funk and serves as the musical soundtrack to Gina's accompanying 1970s-inspired family comedy film, Who’s Clyde.
The project showcases Gina's abilities as a songwriter, vocalist, arranger, producer and musician, with contributions from acclaimed musicians including legendary bassist Robert “Peewee” Hill, known for his work with Thelma Houston and Billy Preston, and keyboardist Michiko Hill, who has performed with Wayne Shorter.
Who’s Clyde represents Gina's ability to take the traditions of classic soul and funk and build something completely independent, personal and contemporary around them.

Gina is now entering the next chapter of her musical career with her forthcoming Black Girl Hippie project.
The new era begins in October 2026 with “Give You My Heart,” the first single from the project, receiving its radio premiere on Mi-Soul Radio during Lindsey Wesker's show on October 24, 2026.
A four-song Black Girl Hippie EP is scheduled for March 2027, followed by the full-length Black Girl Hippie album in June 2027.
The project continues Gina's signature fusion of soul, funk, musicianship and storytelling while introducing the next evolution of the artist known as The Black Girl Hippie.
